The Devil Wears Prada


The Devil Wears Prada got their name from the popular book called “The Devil Wears Prada.” The book story’s messages are about anti-materialism. The band is Christian metal core. They are from Dayton, Ohio. They were formed in 2005. The bands line up is singer Mike Hranica (growl vocals), guitarist and vocalist Jeremy DePoyster (clean vocals), guitarist Chris Rubey, bassist Ziggy “Trick Daddy” Jerome, keyboardist James Baney, drummer Daniel Williams. They band was speculated that they got there name from the film but it was actualized that they were formed before the film was released and explained that their band name is actually derived from an anti-materialistic mindset. Mike Hranica said “It’s the same concept as our lyrics ‘emeralds hold no hope’ and many many others. What we believe it to mean is that possession don’t matter at all and someday everyone will realize that this is true. When standing before God, he won’t care about sweet Prada scarf or Gucci shoes or whatever. It’s a Christian reasoning for the name, we didn’t name it to attempt at being fashionable or whatever. The band has released three full-length album, one DVD and five music videos. They released their demo entitled “Patterns of a Horizon” later re-recorded all of the tracks from the demo to be recorded for their debut full-length album called “Dear Love: A Beautiful Discord”. The demo version of their song ”HTML Rulez D00d” was put on the bands MySpace on January 1, 2007. Then on July 11, Absolute Punk began to stream their song “Don’t Dink and Drance” which gave the band more exposure. (Answers)

Their second album “Plagues” was released on August 21, 2007. The songs from this album “HTML Rulez D00d” and Hey John, What’s Your Name Again?” were released as the two singles. They both got music videos on TV channels MTV and Fuse. It peaked number 57 on the Billboard 200 on September 8, 2007. The Devil Wears Prada influences are Underoath and Still Remains. They performed a cover of the rap song “ Still Fly” it was originally by Big Tymers. The cover song was released on the compilation album “Punk Goes Crunk”. (Answers)

They began writing and recording their third album “With Roots Above and Branches Below”. Before the recording and production of it vocalist Mike Hranica said, “expect a much heavier and more epic record”. Daniel Williams the drummer said the album would be “crazier and wilder”. (Answers)

The Devil Wears Prada has performed with the bands: A Day to Remember, Sky Eats Airplane and Emarosa. They also have performed at 2008 and 2009 Vans Warped Tour. They were on tour with the bands: Underoath, Saosin, The Famine, P.O.S. and Person L. (Answers)

On March 13, they released “Dez Moines” from the album “With Roots Above and Branches Below”. The pre-order package including CD/DVD/Shirt/and a card with a code to download “Dez Moines” and “Assistant to the Regional Manager”. On April 22, 2009 the song “Sassafras” was released on their MySpace profile in final promotion for the release of the album. On the weekend of April 24-26, 2009 the entire album was available as streaming media on Shockhound.com before its official scheduled release date on May 5, 2009. (TDWP)

The band launcded their official website when there album “With Roots Above and Branches Below” was release. It was #11 on the billboard 200. The songs “Dez Moines” and “Hey John, What’s Your Name Again?” was released as downloadable content for the video game Guitar Hero World Tour. (Answers)

The Devil Wears Prada played at the Main Stage at 2009 Warped Tour and played at the iMatter Festival in New York. They performed “Danger: Wildman” for the first time in concert. Mike Hranica, managed a clothing company called Shipshape Roolz Clothing in which he sponsored and endorsed bands. A fraction of Shipshape’s scale money was donated to charities such as Skate 4 Cancer. The clothing line was down and its online changed its named to Traditona, due to ‘legal issues.”(Answers)

November 23 to December 21,2009 they toured with All That Remains. February 4 to March 21, 2010 they were included on a your headlined by Killswitch Engage and open by Dark Tranquillity. In the beginning of 2010 they were voted as 2009’s Band of the Year by readers of Alternative Press and appeared on the cover. February 12, 2010 it was announced that they are in production for a music video for the song “Assistant to the Regional Manager, it was released on April 6, 2010. (TDWP)

In a interview in April with Lucy Albert’s of Alternative Press, the band revealed that they are recording an EP before the band begin their Back to the Roots tour. The EP will be released in August 2010. It was described as “fun” release with “brutal” song in the vein of what will eventually become the band’s fourth studio album. (Answers)

The bands Back to the Roots tour will be presented by Rockstar energy. It will start at the beginning of the summer. Mike Hranica stated “One of the primary elements of the Back to the Roots Tour is playing a few Dear Love songs that we have not played in a long time, probably will not play again or anytime soon.”(TDWP)
